Back to turn.dk/mw3MechWarrior 3 on the ZoneFeedback: thomas@turn.dk

At the zone it is possible to play MechWarrior 3 (and the PM expansion) against a significant number of online opponents. Due to a problem with the way Windows, MechWarrior 3 and the Zone works, a common error when trying to play this game, however, is this:

We are not able to detect MechWarrior 3 on your hard drive. Please install the game before matchmaking on the Zone.

Apart from the obvious, that the game has in fact not been installed, there are a few causes for this error to crop up, and fortunately fixes does also exist:

You do not have the latest patch installed.
The obvious solution here is to download and install the latest patch(V1.2) from Microprose, which you will find here: US, German or French.
You only just installed the patch.
In some cases, the patch will not be fully functional before you have rebooted and played at least one mission after installing the patch.
You have a non-American version of either Windows or MechWarrior 3.
Download and run this patch, which will in most cases fix the problem right away! If it appears it doesn't, try rebooting and see if that helps.
You have an old version of DirectX / Direct-Play.
Download and install the latest version of DirectX(7.0a) from Microsoft.
If none of the above seems to help you, the next solution is almost guaranteed to help you - so far more than 500 people have had luck with this.
What you must do is find out where you have installed MechWarrior 3 to. By default this would be "c:\microprose\mechwarrior 3". Type in the exact location in the box below and hit enter (or click submit). You will now be presented with a download. The download is only a few bytes so it's a matter of seconds before it's complete. Run this file, reboot, and happy gaming :)
